Nice to see you!

Three major events occurred for me last year (2010), all in the space of about 2 weeks. I turned 50. The following day I got married. Two weeks later, my oldest daughter became pregnant with her first child and my first grandchild.

Most middle-aged people will tell you that in their minds, they still feel 20 something. It's the same for me.

Wasn't it only yesterday that I was planning a night out with guys from the surf club? That gorgeous new perm. Flaired, cuffed denims and the red t-shirt with the off-the-shoulder frill. Corked platform wedgies. **sigh**

Suddenly I'm looking in the mirror and wondering how 30 years can flash by so damned quickly!

So here I am in cyberspace, sharing my genuine shock and horror with anyone who'll listen and maybe I'll even meet some other over 50s who find themselves in the same predicament!

Welcome to my dilemna!!

Day 292 in a Year of my Life

I've been feeling very discombobulated all day today.

Strangely I woke during the night and couldn't get back to sleep for about 90 minutes.

I've been trying to teach myself how to use the new editing tablet, but my brain was so fuzzy, it was really hard work and not the fun that I planned it to be.

So from late this afternoon, after a nap, my self prescribed medication has been old 'Friends', 'Will and Grace' and 'Sex and the City' re-runs on Foxtel.

Tomorrow WILL be a better day.

Today I am grateful to Foxtel for providing, so conveniently, a whole run of my favourite TV shows from the past.  They have released a slow injection of 'feel good' to my day :)

Day 291 in a Year of my Life

I have ten minutes ... I want to be in bed by 10pm and it is now 9.50pm.

Three glasses of wine tonight at the club.  Lamb shanks and mash, made with love, by Adoring Husband in the slow cooker.

So now, my belly is full and my head is buzzing a little with the wine.

I took photos today, but I haven't looked at them yet.

Tomorrow I hope to share some cool photos edited on the Cintiq ... which I now have the cable for, but even after three hours, know nothing more about how to use!!

Focus day tomorrow ... it's ALL going to happen tomorrow ... REALLY!

Today I am grateful for Chicklet phone calls and on-line catch-ups with friends who have been busy with life.

Nite all  (9.55pm!!)

Day 290 in a Year of my Life

What a day.

Today was the day to pick up the new computer (which replaces the other new computer that we got last month) and the Cintiq Editing Tablet, along with the adaptor cable so that they would work together.

JB HiFi mucked us around with our order and what should have taken ten minutes, took almost 90 minutes.

Because of the 'huge' inconvenience, we got a 'huge' discount on the remaining amount that we owed.

This is the new set up ...

... that I can't use yet, because they forgot to order the adaptor cable.  Ugh!

I'm exhausted thinking about the learning curve ahead of me, but I think it will be worth it in the end.

We missed a movie because I got the times wrong .. I blame old age!

Did lots of other shopping and got a couple of chores done in town.

I spent the afternoon setting up the iMac, while Adoring Husband had a long nap.

I also did a very poor job cooking dinner.  An easy meal of chops, chips and salad ended up with overcooked chips, undercooked chops and luckily, a reasonable salad.

Tonight while Adoring Husband was out with the SES, I had a bit of fun with the camera out under the stars.

It was a bit tricky doing this by myself .. but very satisfying in the end.  I had a couple of orders from my facebook world and I promised I'd get them done twice over the last ten days .. thought it was about time I came through with my promise.

That's about it for the day I think.

Today, I am grateful that Adoring Husband stayed unusually calm during our 90 minutes at JB this morning and didn't seem bothered about missing the movie either.  Even though little of it went according to plan, we had a good day.

Nite all.

Day 289 in a Year of my Life

A pretty quiet sort of day really ... although we DID get a new cockatiel!

I'll take a photo tomorrow.

We have no idea if it's a he or a she, but it is straight out of the nest and is white with a couple of dark grey patches and big black eyes.

So far, we have named it OB ... that may change later, but for now we have OB (stands for 'Our Bird') and SEB (stands for 'Someone Else's Bird').

They don't seem too interested in each other and both have been very quiet since they joined forces in the cage.

Tomorrow may tell a new story.

I worked on a couple of old sunset photos today ...

Today I am grateful for regular photos and little videos of Chicklet to keep me up-to-date with her development and to see her happy smiling face and hear her fabulous voice.  Thanks Vegan Chickie!

Nite all.

Day 288 in a Year of my Life

When one door of happiness closes, another opens;  but often we look so long at the closed door, that we do not see the one that has been opened before us.  -- Helen Keller.

Today is 'Share Facebook Quotes' day!

Today I am grateful for Tuesday morning teas with the girls that make me feel warm and fuzzy and I love how we can be sarcastic and silly and giggly and supportive and happy and ridiculous!  Thanks girls :D

Nite all.

Day 287 in a Year of my Life

So there haven't been a lot of opportunities for photography this week.

I found a couple of Tawny Frogmouths and some Rainbow Bee Eaters, but I want something more than that.  Something that will capture the imagination.

Instead, this week, I have been going through some old photos and have discovered some nice little gems worth sharing.

I think this one would look great enlarged and framed ...

I really like this shot taken just after sunrise, of The Nikonian silhouette on the beach.

I emailed some of the portrait photos that I showed you yesterday, to the people in the photos and I received a 'thank you' from one of them, which was lovely.  She was impressed.

I must get back to those photos,  finish editing them and email them to the birthday boys.

After our failed whale watching trip, my throat has been quite sore - today is the fourth day.  I've been taking a spoonful of fresh raw honey every morning and every evening and I've been filling myself with lots of vegetable soups as well as veggie and fruit smoothies.  Lots of water.  Lots of Vitamin D.

Those things must be working because my health hasn't degenerated, but I want my throat to be healed NOW!

Anybody out there have any healthful advice that might help?  No drugs.  No tablets.  No synthetic vitamin pills.

Today I'm grateful for surprise photography sales, without even trying!

Nite all.

Day 286 in a Year of my Life

Some more images from the party last night.

I spent half the day making soup!

Cauliflower, zucchini and mushroom soup.  Tomato and red lentil soup.  Both delicious!

It was another gloriously warm Winter's day today.  It was lovely to be out on the trike this morning, soaking up some vitamin D and then I had a little time on the garden swing this afternoon.

The Rainbow Bee Eaters are back and already nesting in the ground near here.  I'll post some photos tomorrow.  I've also found four Tawny Frogmouths so far, so they will be nesting soon too!  I was directed to a tree with two of them perched on top, by a lady who is a regular holiday maker in town.

She actually came to the markets to find me yesterday, specifically to tell me about the Tawnies, which I find just amazing and am so grateful for!  It makes me feel a little bit famous because even though I recognise her face as someone who spends time in the caravan park each year at this time, I don't know her at all!

I must go and check the tree with what I suspect is a Kookaburra nest, tomorrow too.

Our solar panels will be installed tomorrow!  Wahoo!  Looking forward to massively reduced power bills by the end of the year.

Today I am grateful for a pretty fantastic Sunday which included cooking, photography, gardening, a movie, a phone call with Chicklet and a delicious dinner made by Adoring Husband.

Nite all.
